Mortal Shell 2 Editions: Revered, Devout, and Standard

Mortal Shell 2 has three editions. The Revered Edition is a PS5 physical collector set, sold out in most territories. Here is what each one actually adds.

Which edition should you buy?

Buy the standard edition at $49.99 unless you specifically want cosmetics. Nothing in the paid extras changes combat, progression, story, or the amount of game you get — the only difference is a skin set.

The Revered Edition is the one people are searching for, and it is the one most people cannot buy: it is a PlayStation 5 physical collector’s set that the official site lists as sold out in most territories.

Standard$49.99Nothing — this is the full gameAlmost everyone
Devout$59.99Obsidian skin set for all eight ShellsPlayers who want the cosmetics from the start
Devout Upgrade$10.99The same skin set, added to a copy you already ownAnyone who bought standard and changed their mind

The Revered Edition

The Revered Edition is a physical collector’s edition, and it is PlayStation 5 only. There is no PC or Xbox equivalent.

What is in the box:

  • A physical artbook
  • A steelcase
  • Fine art prints
  • Digital extras

The official site carries an update stating that this edition is sold out in most territories. If you want one now, you are looking at third-party stock rather than a normal retail purchase, so expect resale pricing and check that a listing is for the PS5 Revered set rather than a standard copy in a similar box.

There is no digital version of the Revered Edition. The physical items are the entire point of it — nothing in the set gives you an in-game advantage.

The Devout Edition

The Devout Edition costs $59.99 and adds the Obsidian skin set, which re-skins all eight playable Shells. It is available on all three platforms.

This is cosmetic. The skins change how your Shells look and nothing else — no extra Shell, no stat change, no earlier access to anything. If you would not pay $10 for a colour scheme, buy standard.

Already bought the standard edition?

There is a separate Devout Edition Upgrade for $10.99 that adds the Obsidian skin set to a copy you already own. You are not locked out by buying standard first.

Worth doing the arithmetic before you commit either way: standard plus the upgrade comes to $60.98, while the Devout Edition bought outright is $59.99. Buying Devout up front is 99 cents cheaper, and buying standard first costs you a dollar for the option to decide later. Neither is a real amount of money — the point is that there is no penalty for waiting.

What about pre-order bonuses?

Nothing to chase. Mortal Shell 2 has already launched, so pre-orders are closed and any pre-order incentive window has passed. The only paid extra still on sale is the Obsidian skin set, through either the Devout Edition or the upgrade.

If a listing today advertises a pre-order bonus, it is stale marketing copy rather than something you can still claim.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a season pass or roadmap of paid content? Only the Devout Edition Upgrade appears alongside the game on Steam. There is no season pass listed.

Does the Devout Edition include the first Mortal Shell? No. It adds the Obsidian skin set and nothing else. The sequel is standalone, so you do not need the first game either way — see the release date page.

Is the game ever discounted? It launched on August 20, 2026 at full price with no launch discount. A brand-new release is the least likely time to find one.

Which edition gives the best value? Standard. The extras are cosmetic, so the base game is the whole product. Put the difference toward the time you will spend on the beginner’s guide instead.

Is the Revered Edition worth buying at resale prices? Only as a collectible. It contains no gameplay content, so paying above retail buys you the artbook and steelcase, not more game.
